There’s a good post on Fast Company about great leadership…what is it?
Often, when asked "What does a good leader look like?", we click off a list of traits…authentic, good communicator, decisive, etc.
The writer says: "Exhibiting leadership traits doesn’t make one a great leader. If you really want to know how well someone is leading, look at his/her followers. How are they behaving? What are they producing? How have they grown? While traits are good at predicting leadership success, only followers’ actions can demonstrate it."
One of my favorite quotes about leadership comes from Noel Tichy, author of (among others) The Leadership Engine:
“Winners don’t find successors – they create them” – Noel Tichy
Often, instead of creating them we simply harvest from someone elses crop…sometimes it works…
Someone said: "If you don’t like the weeds growing up around you…you might want to take a look at what you’re planting"
Challenging…
I like this observation.
I am apart of house church and find that the pastor is REALLY one who leads by example. He isn't perfect but he portrays Jesus better than anyone else I have ever meet.
He has shown me how to be more like Christ, how to live the journey in a tangible way, in a way that translates into my actions day in and day out, and into all my relationships.
He has brought many to Christ, especially those who have been offended by the traditional church, he has had some who have surrendered to the ministry but more than that he has truely affected the lives of those he has come in contact with by being a living example.
