Focus

Posted September 12, 2005

This weekend we looked at the importance of focus in becoming "world class".

I reflected on several world class individuals that I came into contact with during our summer break: a pastor in India (D. Mohan); the best guitar player on the planet (Brent Rowan); an un-named couple racing past 50 years of marriage; a painter (da Vinci); and my father-in-law (King Herrington) who is in the barbed wire collector hall of fame (go figure).

We looked at Phil. 3:13-14…Paul’s single minded focus… and asked the question: How can I maximize my God given potential?

I suggested doing 3 things

  1. Find the one thing…"one thing I do"
  2. Leverage your time…"I press on"
  3. Put the fences in the right places…"forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead"

We concluded that the highest motivation for that kind of focus was the fact that we are repping God to people who need to see an accurate reflection of who he is…and someday it would be great to hear a hearty "way to go" from the creator of the universe.

Today I found a thought provoking slightly different point of view on the timing of focus from Tom Peters…short and to the point…worth a quick read.
