You’re never going to believe Pt. 2…

Posted November 27, 2005

In an earlier post, I promised to tell the rest of the story of the Rick Warren weekend…at the time I forgot that we made a decision a few weeks ago to tape delay some of our campuses…so in order not to spoil the weekend experience I am waiting until today to fill in the blanks.

First…what did not happen:

  1. He didn’t give us an airplane (biggest train of thought in the comments section)
  2. He didn’t offer me a job (my kids biggest fear)
  3. We are not starting a new clothing line together (the fashion world is safer for now at least)

Essentially what happened is this:

When he landed in Charleston Rick’s first words to me were "Greg, God loves you and I have a wonderful plan for the next 48 hours of your life"…a scary thought!  So, immediately following the Charleston event, I climbed on the plane with Rick and the crew and headed to Orlando for a similar event.  No time to go home, get clothes, get nervous…nothing…just go.

While in the plane Rick explained that he wanted me to speak with him to a group of a feImgp0523w hundred pastors at noon…and to help him do the evening event in the Orlando arena for several thousand people.  One of those "ready in season and out" kind of moments.  The team was great…they included me in all of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on…I learned a lot.  The whole atmosphere was alive with life and generosity.

What a blast!  The mystery solved…

  1. Greg, about 2000 years ago someone told his followers to go out, on faith, to spread the Word with just the clothes on their backs. Thanks for stepping out on faith and taking a peek from that peak. …and the Broncos won too!

  2. Ahhhh… we all have those “hanging out with Rick Warren for the weekend” stories, don’t we?

  3. When you do things from the heart true leaders will see your actions and want you on their team. Of course if Rick kidnapped you for longer you have great team of pastors who could lead us.
PS…Glad to hear you aren’t starting a new clothing line… but in my opinion there’s nothing better (fashion wise) than a great ALOHA shirt!
