Bad day

Posted September 22, 2008

I guess when the theme of the weekend is "Obstacles", and the special music is "Bad Day" by Daniel Powder, you shouldn’t expect everything to go smoothly…and it didn’t…to say the least.

Let me dive straight into this weeks mind dump:

  • Actually things went pretty well at 28 out of 29 services.  Geoff Surratt pointed out that if we were live everywhere the percentages could have been much worse.  Thank God for a one week delay.
  • The wheels came off at the 9:30 service at LPR when the sound system developed a serious hum just as I began to speak…we are talking serious.  We had to put the breaks on and bring the whole thing to a stop about 10 minutes into the message while the tech team frantically tried to find the problem and patch it together.  Thank God for an incredible tech team.
  • It did allow me to include some unplanned Sarah Palin jokes to fill the time.  Thank God for a quick tech team.
  • You may remember "Bad Day" as the theme song on American Idol for contestants going home.  It was sung at LPR by a former AI contestant, who went home.
  • I thought the video team did an awesome job on the "Accident" video.  I cried every time.  You can see it here.  If you are from a campus other than LPR, don’t peak…you’ll see it this week.
  • We were able to take a peek at 6 of our campuses live during worship this weekend through a tool we are calling "Skybox".  That was way cool.  It really felt like one church many campuses.  I’m going to show it to the congregation this weekend.
  • I am eternally grateful for my friends in ministry.  I wish we didn’t get discouraged from time to time, but we do.  It’s great to have a small group of guys to pick each other up.
  • I am blown away every weekend by the response time at the end of the message.
  • We sang a song that Martin Chalk wrote during the response time that was great.  Keep writing them, Martin and we will keep singing them.
  • Speaking of Martin, pray for he and Jeanne’s parents in Scotland.  It appears someone tried to fire bomb their home.  Read about it here.
  • I’m looking forward to the "Multi-site Exposed Conference" here at Seacoast next week.  It will be fun teaming up with Dino Rizzo, Mark Batterson, and our Seacoast team.  The food is going to be worth the price of admission.  Hospitality, Charleston style.
  • How bout them Cubs?
  • The Broncos squeaked out another nail biter…I’m starting to believe.

That’s all I’ve got for now…it’s my daughters birthday and I’m late to the party…see ya.
