Someone once said that your future is shaped by two things more than anything else: What you read and who you hang around with.
I’m looking for 100 200 hungry people to hang out with in 2011 and help shape our future. Hungry for what, you ask?
Wisdom.
Here’s the deal, I’m laying the gauntlet down and issuing the Twitter Bible Study: Daily Wisdom Challenge.
Pr 4:7 –Pr 4:8 (NLT) Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And whatever else you do, get good judgment. If you prize wisdom, she will exalt you. Embrace her and she will honor you.
Col 3:16 (NLT) Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other.
Here is the challenge, I’m looking for 100 people who will:
- Choose a daily Bible reading program. It may be a chapter a day, or a book a week, or thru the Bible in a year, or anything else you can think of. If you don’t have a daily reading program, there’s a great selection HERE.
- Decide to read a portion of scripture everyday.
- Ask God for one piece of wisdom and insight from what you read.
- Post your insight in 140 characters or less in the comments section of this blog (include the scripture reference).
- Copy your insight and post it on your Twitter or Facebook account so others can benefit from what you are learning.
Frequently asked questions:
- Why follow an established Bible reading program? This isn’t an ironclad rule. It just helps to have a consistent pattern to follow.
- Why is it called a “Twitter Bible Study”? Because there is a 140 character limit, the same as was originally established by Twitter.
- Why not allow insights to be longer? Because 140 characters forces you to distill and focus your thoughts. It helps you to better understand and communicate what God is saying to you.
- Why post my insights here? Two reasons: One, it gives you some accountability. It makes you do something rather than just think about it. Better yet, get a friend to do it with you and both post your insights, holding each other accountable. Two, it allows others who are taking the Daily Wisdom Challenge to benefit from your wisdom.
- Why post my insights on my Twitter and/or Facebook account? Your friends/followers will gain wisdom from your study and hopefully they will be encouraged to do it themselves.
- What time will the Daily Wisdom Challenge be posted? It will go up at 6:00am EST daily at gregsurratt.org starting January 1, 2011.
- Will I get a Twitter or Facebook notification to remind me everyday? Yes, if you are one of my Twitter followers (click HERE) or if you click “Like” on my Facebook Page, or become my Facebook friend, you will receive a daily reminder at 7:00am EST. (Seacoast attenders will get a notification on the City)
- What if I miss a day? Just start again the next day. Consistency is good, but the bigger goal is gaining wisdom.
- Will God love me more if I take the challenge? God couldn’t love you more than he does right now. You don’t earn his love by reading the Bible everyday. Others may love you more because their love tends to be conditional and hopefully you will become more lovable the more you gain God’s wisdom
So, who and what is going to shape you this year? Will you be one of my 100 200?
If you accept the challenge, leave a comment in the comment section of this post. Just say, “I’m in”.
Spread the word. Let’s do this thing…

I’m in Greg. Let’s do this thing!

Day 1 Gen Chap 1,2, Mathew Chap 1, 2:1:12, Proverbs 1:1-6
God rested, so can we. God really wants to take care of us if we will only let him. Joseph deserves some credit of being very faithful to God, he probably took quite a verbal beating from his friends. Look to proverbs for wisdom and guidance and understanding.

Psalm 6:6 I am worn out from sobbing. All night I flood my bed with weeping, drenching it with my tears.
What a way to start off the year. Being reminded that no matter what we struggle with we need to turn it all over to Him and He will take care of you. This speaks so much to us today and we have been going through so many struggles this last year. Thanks you Lord for giving us this verse to start off a New Year!

I have read this numerous times. I usually try to over analyze the creation. God created us in his image. This is a powerful statement to me. We are truly unique to any other creature with the fact that life was breathed into us which I see as our soul/spirit.

DAY 2, Genesis 3,4; Mathew 2:13-23 3:1-6
The serpent used deception to cause sin. That is still very true today. We must always look to God and his word to know what is true. The deceiver’s words went against what God told Adam and Eve. God’s truth will be in his word. God will keep us from danger is we listen to him. Even today we need to prepare the way for him like John the Baptist

Phil. 4:6-7 (Msg). Instead of worrying, pray. Let petitions and praises shape your worries into prayers. There are 31 chapters of Proverbs. Read a chapter a day and by the end of the month you will have read the entire book. On months that do not have 31 days just read the remaining chapters. Do this for a year and you will be amazed at how much wisdom, knowledge and understanding you will gain. The Proverbs will also give you incredible insight into the other scriptures and are keys to unlocking their many truths.

I’m old school…the best insight? Turn away from evil and do good. This verse tells me that everything related to our salvation and the building of the body of Christ requires us to get out of the “Sunday Christian” mentality, roll our sleeves up and let the Lord use us to do the work of leading others to Christ, and by taking the time to listen to those who are hurting and showing them the answer.
