Pr 4:7 –Pr 4:8 (NLT) Getting wisdom is the most important thing you can do! And whatever else you do, get good judgment. If you prize wisdom, she will exalt you. Embrace her and she will honor you.
Col 3:16 (NLT) Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other.
Here is the daily wisdom challenge:
- Choose a daily reading program. If you don’t have one, there’s a great selection HERE.
- Decide to read a portion of scripture everyday.
- Ask God for one piece of wisdom and insight from what you read.
- Post your insight in 140 characters or less in the comments section of this blog (include the scripture reference).
- Copy your insight and post it on your Twitter or Facebook account so others can benefit from what you are learning.
Frequently asked questions:
- Why follow an established Bible reading program? This isn’t an ironclad rule. It just helps to have a consistent pattern to follow.
- Why is it called a “Twitter Bible Study”? Because there is a 140 character limit, the same as was originally established by Twitter.
- Why not allow insights to be longer? Because 140 characters forces you to distill and focus your thoughts. It helps you to better understand and communicate what God is saying to you.
- Why post my insights here? Two reasons: One, it gives you some accountability. It makes you do something rather than just think about it. Better yet, get a friend to do it with you and both post your insights, holding each other accountable. Two, it allows others who are taking the Daily Wisdom Challenge to benefit from your wisdom.
- Why post my insights on my Twitter and/or Facebook account? Your friends/followers will gain wisdom from your study and hopefully they will be encouraged to do their own reading.
- What time will the Daily Wisdom Challenge be posted? It will go up at 6:00am EST at gregsurratt.org
- Will I get a Twitter or Facebook notification to remind me everyday? Yes, if you are one of my Twitter followers (click HERE) or you click “Like” on my Facebook Page, you will receive a daily reminder at 7:00am EST.
- What if I miss a day? Just start again the next day. Consistency is good, but the bigger goal is gaining wisdom.
- Will God love me more if I take the challenge? God couldn’t love you more than he does right now. You don’t earn his love by reading the Bible everyday. Others may love you more because their love tends to be conditional and hopefully you will become more lovable the more you gain God’s wisdom
If you are ready, go ahead and post today’s insight in the comments sections.

Genesis 1, 2, 3,
We must diligently focus on God and His word if not we can be easily deceived. Satan is always tempting us to sin against God. We make decisions that appeal to the flesh and many times suffer the consequences of our sin. You must focus on God, read his word, pray, and have accountability from a Christian friend to protect yourself. As your relationship with God grows and the Holy Spirit lives within you, it will be easier to recognize Satan’s deceiving ways. However, we still sin and God’s love never goes away. He is always here and provides us with what we need.

I opened a praise verse e-mail that I receive everyday before reading my Day 1 of a brand new Daily in His Presence book. The verse was, “Everything is possible to him who believes.” Mark 9:23. On my way to TN for Christmas, I listened to a Beth Moore teaching about the power of belief and unbelief. Not in unbelief of God, but in believing that God can do all things- just not for me. This is still unbelief and doubting that He is, “the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the End,” Rev. 21:6, which was my verse for study today. Just to punctuate the message my mother gave a special gift to me, my sister, and grandmother all with tags that said boldly, BELIEVE. Then I realized that the wrapping paper I chose this year had one word written all over it in bold letters- BELIEVE.

NO NEED TO FEEL THAT YOU WILL BE IGNORED. EVEN IF YOU STAMMER OR STUMBLE, EVEN IF WHAT YOU SAY IMPRESSES NOONE IT IMPRESSES GOD. HE LISTENS TO THE PAINFUL PLEA OF THE ELDERLY N THE REST HOME: HE LISTENS TO THE GRUFF CONFESSION OF THE DEATH ROW INMATE: WHEN THE ALCOHOLIC BEGS FOR MERCY: WHEN THE SPOUSE SEEKS GUIDANCE: WHEN THE BUSINESS MAN STEPS OFF THE STREET INTO THE CHAPEL. God the Father reveals His will then executes it or puts it all in motion. Now I see Christ Jesus bringing forth His people and my money is on the fact that when Jesus said it is finished He meant it like Genesis 2 and He entered His rest. Genesis 3 shows me I should not listen to certain folks and disregard there questions to avoid deception and not fear pressing through flaming swords to eat from the tree of life. I also heard Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. The Holy Spirit is an awesome teacher!Thank You Jesus! Genesis 1:1-3

Today’s reading: (Genesis 1-2, Matthew 1-2 Life application study bible NIV) Jesus is both fully human and fully divine. Because Jesus lived as a man, we know that he fully understands our experiences and struggles (Hebrews 4:15, 16) because he is God, he has the power and authority to deliver us from sin (Colossians 2:13-15). We can tell Jesus all our thoughts, feelings, and needs. He has been where we are now, and he has the ability to help.

Trusting in God and his promises to us. To trust when we doubt — nothing is too big for the Lord.

I read John 2 today, when Jesus turned the water into wine, the person in charge told the groom that he had saved the best wine for last…so I started thinking about how contrary Kingdom principles are to the worlds’ way of thinking…the last will be first, give and you’ll get, die to yourself and you will live, etc…yet these principles work snd when you practice them, amazing things happen. Obedience is way better than sacrifice!

Col 3:16 (NLT) Let the words of Christ, in all their richness, live in your hearts and make you wise. Use his words to teach and counsel each other.
This is the whole point of living as Church. The house of the lord is not a place where we worship but how we live as Christians. It is how we live and how we should always treat others.

Romans 8:15-So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” I have friends thay have an adopted son and a biological son. My friend treat them the same…even though one came from somewhere else. God is the same way…it doesn’t matter where you came from, when you accept Hin, you become His favorite…I am His favorite too!!!

John 15:4 – Remain in me, and I will remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.I had some grapes for lunch today that were at the bottom of the bag, not connected to the vine…and when I looked at them they didn’t look very good. In fact, they wouldn’t have been good very much longer. Just kind of reminded me what we look like when we are not connected to our Vine…We must remain in Him to be our best!

Isaiah 59:4 – No one calls for justice, and no one pleads his case truthfully. People trust pointless arguments and speak lies. They conceive trouble and give birth to evil.
I am certain that this is prophetic for todays foster care system…If you care about kids…take a look at who has the rights…you will be shocked to see how long our children are punished for the sins of their parents! Today, I am starting a campaign to expose this. I will be a voice for the millions of children who have no voice. Pray that God will intervene for the children!

Psalms 10:18 – You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them. There are real life children all over the United States of America that are stuck inside the foster care system…the very system that was designed to protect them…that could have permanency and stability if the courts would allow it. In the current system, the parents rights are protected more so than the children. We treat animals and their abusers with more contempt than the parents that abuse and neglect their children. Get involved…Pray…We can all do something!

Habakkuk 1:4 – The law has become paralyzed, and there is no justice in the courts. The wicked far outnumber the righteous, so that justice has become perverted. This is happening in courts all over America to innocent children today. We need reform in the foster care system so that our 1st priority as a nation, is to take care of the children. If you loose your children due to neglect or abuse, you need to earn the right to be called a parent again by a fair judicial system and by your attitudes and behaviors. Not one that is slanted to the parents due to paperwork! As Americans we pay these public defenders and judges. Rise up this election and make your vote count this November!

Psalms 68:5 – The God who is in his holy dwelling place is the father of the fatherless and the defender of widows.

Proverbs 31:8 – Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves; ensure justice for those being crushed.

A lot of us forget that God’s Word is an action book..it isn’t just studying it, we actually have to do what it says! We sing songs like “make my heart like yours, everything I am for Your Kingdom’s cause”, but my question is…do we really mean it…I dare say most people dont…I dare you to watch the ABC News 20/20 segment on Americas Foster Kids that aired this past Friday…Does it move you to know that children are being moved through the systsem more than 20 homes in 6 years??? That one child was on more than 10 medications to make her “compliant”…If not, mybe you should ask God to make your heart more like His…

Thessalonians 5:17 – Never stop praying. Requesting prayer for all foster children…but especially Drew, Austin, and Noah…their parents are scheduled back in court this week…pray that the judge will rule in favor for stability for these special boys!

Isaiah 33:6 – He will be the foundation of your future. The riches of salvation are wisdom and knowledge. The fear of the LORD is [your] treasure. I am claiming this scripture over my little boys…my foster sons…as thet have been moved again…the 6th time since June 22, when we moved to Az…PLEASE pray for them…

Proverbs 3:5 – Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; SOmetimes you just have to trust that God has it all under control…please continue to pray for our foster sons…progress was made today but we are not out of the woods yet…Trusting Him!

Mark 6:37 – Jesus replied, “You give them something to eat.” They said to him, “Should we go and spend about a year’s wages on bread to feed them?” In this scripture is Jesus asking the disciples to do more than they actually can??? I don’t think so…I think He is only asking them (and us) to do all that we can and to believe him for the rest…and just like then…He will come through when we do our part…Please do your part for foster care children…pray, contact political figures where you live, foster, pray, etc…Just do your part!

Joshua 1:9 – Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.”
You never have to be scared or afraid of taking in a foster child…God knows your abilities and capabilities…He will never ask you to do what you cannot do…He just needs you to be available! Take the leap of faith…He is with you!

John 4:14 – But those who drink the water I give will never be thirsty again. It becomes a fresh, bubbling spring within them, giving them eternal life. If you are a Christ follower, you have been entrusted with amazing truths…that you need to share with those around you. Can you imagine the change in the foster care system if we all did our part to share the truths of Gods Word with the children, lawyers, social workers, even judges….That is a powerful thought!

Matthew 6:12 – Forgive us as we forgive others. As Christ followers, we are to forgive those who wrong us…We need to take in these foster children and teach them the act of forgiveness…so that bitterness doesnt invade their hearts…Foregiveness against a system that has wronged many but most of all foregiveness for their parents…lets face it folks, it is easier to be bitter than to forgive…

John 15:2 – He removes every one of my branches that doesn’t produce fruit. He also prunes every branch that does produce fruit to make it produce more fruit. Everything in me and in you that does not produce good stuff…God will take away…but the good news is that He replaces it with good stuff…and He does that so the we will be generous with others…think about being generous this year with a foster care agency…the children need people who love God and that will love them!

1 John 3:17 – If someone has enough money to live well and sees a brother or sister in need but shows no compassion–how can God’s love be in that person? Last night, Reynaldo and I went to a foster parent orientation, and the lady said that there are 11,000 kids in foster care just in Arizona alone adn they have about 8,0000 beds including group homes and shelters. She actually said that some kids are sleeping in CPS offices…I was once again reminded about why Pastor Bill Wilson ended up in NYC…he always said that the need is the call of God! Thanks for disturbing my sleep Pastor Bill!!!

Matthew 7:7 – Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. I am asking for my foster sons to be delivered to us and I am thankful that God is revealing all things…please pray that the doors will be opened for them!

Romans 12:2 – Don’t become like the people of this world. Instead, change the way you think. Then you will always be able to determine what God really wants-what is good, pleasing, and perfect. Some things you do not even have to really think abouy whether it is Gods will…Ask yourself…Would Jesus do this? Is this good??? Overcome evil by doing good…love a foster child today!

Proverbs 11:30 – The fruit of a righteous person is a tree of life, and a winner of souls is wise. Getting ready to go out for Adopt A Block…if you are in the Phoenix area, Phoenix First will give away 5000 bikes and 10000 wrapped presents tommorrow…starts at 10:30…doors open at 9…n exciting way to spend the weekend…or if you want a real harvest…adopt or foster a child that may have never heard the Gospel…lots of opportunities…so little time

Psalms 90:17 – Let the kindness of the Lord our God be with us. Make us successful in everything we do. Yes, make us successful in everything we do. There is a saying in ministry that we pray like it is up to God and we work like it is up to us…I guess that is true…Great exhausting day at Phoenix First today…5000 kids got bikes and 10000 kids got wrapped Christmas gifts, but multitudes heard the Gospel! Now back to work on trying to get our homestudy done for our foster kids…please pray that pur paperwork miraculously gets here and that CPS in Phoenix moves fast!!!

John 16:33 – I’ve told you this so that my peace will be with you. In the world you’ll have trouble. But cheer up! I have overcome the world. Even in the craziest of circumstances, we can have peace…pray that my foster sons can have peace where they are…until God finishes working out the process….

Psalms 30:5 – His anger lasts only a moment. His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may last for the night, but there is a song of joy in the morning. Thanking God for His favor and for the joy that will come when our boys are back wit us…pray for them during this holiday time!

2 Thessalonians 3:13 – And as for you, brothers, never tire of doing what is right. Keep on even though you may get weary, God does show up in the end…we can overcome the evil in the foster care system by being good to the kids!!! Just don’t give up!!! Preaching to the choir now!!!

1 Timothy 6:18 – Instruct them to do good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and ready to share,
Who are you sharing the blessings of God with this Christmas season??? There are foster children everywhere that do not have homes..Please help where you can…

Matthew 6:14 – If you forgive the failures of others, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
I need forgiveness, do you? If you are holding something against someone, it is the season to let it go…you will really be freeing yourself for all that God has for you! That is one of the biggest reasons Christ followers need to be involved with foster children, they need to forgive their families, the system, etc so they can be free!

Hebrews 11:16 – Instead, these men were longing for a better country-a heavenly country. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God. He has prepared a city for them. I woke up thinking about the kids longing for Santa to come tonight and wondering how many of Americas foster kids are longing for a “forever” home…I know we are supposed to be longing for Heaven and I am, and in doing so, I am also longing for a family for every child, which I am sure God has taken care of because He thinks of everything!

Matthew 1:19-Joseph, her fiance, was a good man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly. Joseph was a good man..It takes a good man to take care of a child or children that are not their own…this is a shout out to all men…especially my husband, that have stepped up for whatever reason…Men there are children everywhere who need a real man to step up…foster children, single moms with deadbeat dads, etc…Thanks to Jesus’”dad”, we have a great example!

Isaiah 11:6 – The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. We should let children lead us more…then all children IN THIS COUNTRY would have a place to sleep tonight…I guess foster kids are kinda like Jesus…there is no space for them…maybe we should let them and our hearts lead us!

Psalms 33:12 – Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD. Blessed are the people he has chosen as his own. I cannot imagine my life without God…yet there are thousands of foster childer in every state in America just waiting to be introduced to Him…and He wants to heal them everywhere they hurt, but He needs our hands and obedience to reach them…

Isaiah 43:19 – I am going to do something new. It is already happening. Don’t you recognize it? I will clear a way in the desert. I will make rivers on dry land.
What is your reaction when God begins doing something new on the inside of you??? Maybe asks you to do something that takes you out of your comfort zone??? Is God asking you to help foster children?? Pray for them??? If we are all obedient, then the job will get done!

1 Corinthians 16:9 – I have a great opportunity to do effective work here, although there are many people who oppose me. Whenever there are opportunities, there will be opposition…if you decide to take in foster kids, expect them to act bad, expect problems with the parents, expect things to go wrong…and then KNOW the GOD opened this door of opportunity for you!

Thinking about the goals now…I would like to learn how to write grants to help foster kids…anyone know where to start???
