Just got in from a bike ride with my tight squeeze...sitting on the porch looking out on a little piece of heaven...thinking a few random thoughts on a Saturday morning:
- Digital discipleship is an important part of the coming wave. Mark Batterson talks about the impact of Godcasts. Notice I said "part" of the coming wave...you can never eliminate good old fashioned relationships. Mix the two and you've got a potential tsunami.
- If I was planting a church I would take my core group through Purpose Driven community.
- I'm convinced that small groups are the key to just about everything. I have a dream...of a church...where small groups drive evangelism, community, personal growth, servanthood, stewardship and leadership development.
- If I wasn't paid to be at all the services, my family would go to church on Saturday night. Some guys complain about Saturdays...some guys are opposed to Saturdays...we love it. Go to church at 6:15...go out with friends afterward...go golfing/fishing/watch NASCAR on Sunday morning...it doesn't get much better than that! Actually that's someone else's life...at least the Sunday morning part...but we really do love Saturday nights.
- Did I mention that I love Charleston? What's not to love...it's 78 degrees...not a cloud in the sky...the smell of pluff mud in the air (if you don't know, don't ask)...the beach is 10 minutes away...this is what we have to look forward too for the next 2 months. So what's it like where you live? Oh, that's too bad...

Specifically, why would you take a core group through 40 Days of Community? What would it accomplish? I lead our mother church through 40 Days of Purpose but am not familiar with 40 Days of Community. Thanks!!

40 DOC focuses the group on community outreach...builds team...challenges the team to be practical in reaching the community around them.
We are currently doing it with the core team of a church plant in Charlotte.

I think the big idea about 40 DOC is that it helps Christians GROW UP. You stop thinking about only feeding yourself, and you start thinking about serving others. The focus changes from, "What can I get? What's in it for me?" to "How can I help others? Where does God want me to use the gifts he gave me? To whom can I show the love of God?" This attitude will change the believer and change the world.
